Abstract

In India, despite of half of the population, women are not in stronger sphere due to lack of awareness, illiteracy, orthodox society, financial dependency and family pressure. Self Help Group (SHG), world’s largest scheme launched in 1987–88, gave momentum in the development of entrepreneurial activities amongst rural women. This programme not only upgraded entrepreneurial skill but also developed habit of saving managerial skill, risk-taking ability, investment of own fund and self-reliant attitude, and helped rural women to understand unity is strength. However, the need of ICT in the training programmes of SHG was felt important to sharpen the entrepreneurial skills of business women, both in rural and urban areas. This paper is intended to compare and find the relationship between the entrepreneurial abilities of urban and rural women under SHG based on socio-economic condition and also to find evolution and development of SHG and various issues and gaps faced by women entrepreneurs of SHG and need of ICT for bringing efficiency in training programmes for members of SHG.
