Abstract

With the popularity of computer network, the remote password authentication becomes an important research topic once again. In 2003, Wu et al. proposed an efficient and user friendly remote password authentication scheme based on the one-way hash function and discrete logarithm problem. However, there still exists a security flaw in their scheme. In this article, we propose a new password authentication scheme which inherits the advantages of Wu et al.'s scheme and withstands the security weakness from which Wu et al.'s scheme suffered. In addition, our proposed scheme can confirm mutual authentication between the remote system and users. The security of our scheme is also based on the one-way hash function and discrete logarithm problem.
