Abstract

AbstractA miniaturized reactor system based on a small‐scale calorimeter (25 mL vessel) equipped with different chemical sensors is presented in this contribution. Apart from the sensor for the detection of the thermal power, the system was equipped with two chemical sensors. In comparison to established calorimeters, this newly designed combination as a whole significantly extends the range of application. The miniaturized chemical sensors can be chosen from a pool of potentiometric and amperometric ones, measuring pH value, redox potential, nitrate and glucose concentrations, as well as dissolved carbon dioxide and oxygen content. The miniaturized sensors were developed by the Kurt‐Schwabe‐Institute (Meinsberg) and the electrical circuit of the system was designed by IMM (Mittweida). The reactor was tested for batch cultivations using Paracoccus pantotrophus DSM 65 as a model culture.
