A slow neutron chopper for energies between 0.1 and 0.001 eV

Abstract

A slow neutron chopper has been constructed and used at the Reactor RC-1, of the Casaccia Nuclear Center, for neutron cross-section measurements. The mechanical and electronic features of the instrument are described. Calibration measurements of the time of flight scale are reported. The neutron total cross-section of gold in the energy range between 0.1 and 0.001 eV has been carried out as a check of the effectiveness of our instrument.
