Abstract

A single-phase buck-boost type AC-DC power converter with a sliding mode derived control strategy and using only two switches is presented and discussed. To achieve sinusoidal input current and high power factor, sliding mode control of the input current is proposed. A proportional integral (PI) controller is adopted to regulate the output voltage of the power converter. The reference of the current controller is a sinusoidal waveform whose amplitude is modulated by the external voltage controller. Simulation and experimental results show the high power factor and low harmonic distortion characteristics of the circuit.
