Abstract

This paper describes the implementation of a stepper motor controller using a single off-the-shelf MSI programmable logic integrated circuit chip. The controller is field-programmable and enables the user to quickly generate custom patterns for the simultaneous control of speed, full/half step, and direction of two stepper motors. More than 90% of the chip factional capability is utilized. This allows smaller hardware size, less power consumption, improved reliability, and reduction in cost compared to other similar reported controllers.
