Abstract
A single Dual-Drive Mach-Zehnder Modulator (DD-MZM) has been proposed to generate vestigial sideband modulation schemes for radio over fiber system (ROF) applications. Light waves generated by laser diodes (LD) are externally modulated using DD-MZM by Radio Frequency (RF) signals that have the phase difference of π/12, π/6, π/4, π/3, and 5π/12. It is resulting in a modulated optical wave with an unbalanced magnitude sideband. The simulation results show that the Optical Vestigial Sideband (OVSB) modulation scheme with π/3 and 5π/12 phase differences can compensate for power fading better than the Optical Single Sideband (OSSB) and Optical Double Sideband (ODSB) modulation schemes.
