Abstract

Background: Sentinel lymph node biopsy is now the recognised technique for staging of the axilla in early breast cancer. National Institute of Clinical Excellence, United Kingdom, guidelines advise the use of a dual technique in identifying the sentinel lymph node. However, national restrictions in the supply of Technetium99 have created a real problem in delivering this gold standard. We studied an alternative magnetic tracer (Magtrace®, Endolab) to use as an adjunct to Patent Blue dye (Guerbet Laboratories) in axillary staging.
