Abstract
A simultaneous double cancer of the stomach and malignant melanoma is described. A 68-year-old male was performed splenototalgastrectomy for a macroscopic classification of type 4 gastric cancer (P0H0N4 (+) S2 in Stage IV) in July 1990. One month after the operation, his left inguinal lymph node swelling was noticed and it was resected. The pathological findings of the specimen indicated metastasis of malignant melanoma from unknown lesion. Thereafter the patient did not respond to chemotherapy including EAP regimen and multiple skin metastases of malignant melanoma occurred in January 1992. The patient died of his brain metastasis of January 1992. It is reported that the double cancer including gastric cancer represents 2-3% of all cancers, and the other cancer often arises from other gastrointestinal organs. There are few reports of the double cancer of gastric cancer and malignant melanoma. There is an increasing tendency to develop second or third malignancy for patients with cancerfre-quency of the double cancer is reported to became high because the motality becomes loweer by the advance of the cancer therapy and people live longer. The patients must be followed with attention to double or triple cancer.
