Abstract

A Monte Carlo deposition simulation is presented for a Langmuir-Blodgett multilayer film of cadmium arachidate to explain the experimentally observed inhomogeneous film thickness. The simulation is based on a model for a deposition defect known as a “transition from Y- to X-type deposition”. The transition is simulated by introducing a probability of surface molecule detachment considering interaction between neighbouring molecules. A rough surface derived from an inhomogeneous number of layers is predicted. The result is consistent with the measured distribution of the number of layers using soft X-ray reflection.
