Abstract

A simplified approach to the inferior vena cava has been used at laparotomy to allow partial interruption of the inferior vena cava in four patients. Access is obtained by incision of the root of the small bowel mesentery, and relatively little dissection is needed. The technique is recommended when vena caval interruption is to be performed at the time of a laparotomy.
