Abstract

A simplified procedure for the silver impregnation of degenerating central nervous system axons and terminals utilizing cryostat tissue sections mounted on poly-L-lysine coated slides has been developed. This modification of the original methodology described by Fink and Heimer permits this technique to be used reliably on routine neuropathological material in the clinical histology laboratory. It will allow the investigation of axonal degeneration in a variety of clinical neuropathological conditions. (The J Histotechnol 11:101, 1988.)
