Abstract

Most regenerators encountered in practice have simple linear or exponential temperature fields in their central parts. This leads to the possibility of a simplified representation of the regenerator efficiency with sufficient accuracy for all practical cases. In the important “symmetrical” case, in which the parameters have the same value in both directions of gas flow, the efficiency can be represented by a single curve. This case is treated extensively in this paper. The results for the general case are given in an Appendix. Here also a reduction is achieved of the number of parameters needed to represent the efficiency.
