Abstract

A simplified analysis was performed to investigate the influence of soil–pilestructure interaction (SPSI) on the dynamic characteristics of structures. Superstructures were modeled as generalized single degree-of-freedom sys­tems using the virtual displacement principle, and the impedance functions of pile foundations were solved based on the thin-layer method. Extensive para­metric analyses of simplified shear-type structures were carried out, and the results were used to obtain simple relationships, which can be utilized to per­form a preliminary estimation of the SPSI effects. The proposed method, which was verified by experimental data, could be used to solve the dynamic characteristics of shear-type structures immediately without performing com­plex analysis.
