Abstract

Abstract A simplified procedure for the determination of 14C- labeled alkanes in mammalian tissue and blood is proposed. A portion of the ethanolic-KOH digest of the sample is counted in a standard toluene scintillator solution; consequently no secondary scintillator solvent or special tissue solubilizer is required. A wide variety of sample types and sizes, including whole organs, can be handled without homogenization or drying. Accuracy and precision are good. Sensitivity is generally inversely related to sample size.
