Abstract

The study of spectrochemical excitation sources is frequently aided if electrical measurements, such as electron density, can be obtained. This report will present a new, simple method for sealing tungsten electrodes into a quartz tube. Other research on the nature of the microwave plasma incorporated relatively complex methods to seal probes into quartz or have used Pyrex plasma tubes so that canary-glass seals could be used. The seals reported here are sturdy and perform well at elevated temperature and in high vacuum. The assembly described has been used successfully in the study of a microwave-excited argon plasma.
