Abstract

Thermodynamic properties of steam are very often required to evaluate the performance of power plant and other industries where process steam is used. Simplified equations and correlations have been identified from the literature for different properties of steam and used to develop a code in C language. The present code can predict properties of saturated water and steam in the temperature range of 0 to 370 °C. The only input required to run this code is temperature and the output is the corresponding saturated thermodynamic properties such as specific enthalpy, entropy, and specific volume. The data generated from this code is then compared with the data available in standard steam table. It is observed that the average error for all properties is less than 0.2% which is good enough for most applications. This code can also be used as a subroutine for the performance optimization of any power plant.
