Abstract

Decimating band-pass sampled signals have inherent frequency translation property. This frequency translation property has been proposed to be used in software defined radio (SDR) architectures where direct down conversion of single or multiple radio frequency (RF) signals are realized. The digital front-end of such architectures required channel filtering, sample rate conversion, baseband down-conversion and low pass filtering to remove images formed by the process of baseband down-conversion. In this paper, we present a simplified approach to digital front-end realization with respect to baseband down-conversion for baseband signal recovery in single or multiple channels SDR with symmetric sidebands which deploys band-pass sampling. This reduces significantly the computational load on the digital signal processors used in such SDR architectures.
