Abstract

Based on a simple series expansion method involving the Chebyshev technique, we formulate analytical expressions for far-field pattern of LP11 mode in graded index fibers and evaluate them. The concerned calculations require much less computations. Taking step-index fiber as example, we show that our results match excellently with the available exact results. The formalism developed should find application in predicting characteristics for first higher order mode in graded index fibers. Moreover, one can also predict the first higher order modal field from the knowledge of far-field pattern. This simple and accurate methodology prescribed will benefit the system engineers working in this particular field.
