Abstract

A simple method of inducing abundant sporulation by A. carthami on synthetic media is described. The fungus was grown on potato carrot agar for 9 to 10 days in darkness. The mycelium was then extensively wounded and subjected to irradiation (6.5–9.0 Wm−2); 12h photoperiod) for 48 h. Abundant sporulation occurred within 24 h.
