Abstract

The prediction of stochastic crack growth accumulation is important for the reliability analysis of structures as well as the scheduling of inspection and repair/replacement maintenance. Based on the lognormal random process model and a second order approximation, a simple stochastic crack growth analysis method is presented for practical applications. The method is an extension of the lognormal random variable model. It accounts for the correlation parameter while maintaining the simplicity and advantages of the lognormal random variable model. The analysis method can be implemented easily using deterministic crack growth analysis results and estimates of the statistics of the crack growth behavior. The flexibility and accuracy of the method presented are demonstrated using numerical simulation results and experimental data.
