Abstract

Leukocytes from 42 normal subjects were consistently stimulated to reduce nitroblue-tetrazolium (NBT) when incubated with heparin in a concentration of 100 units per ml. of whole blood. The same concentration of heparin did not cause NBT reduction by leukocytes from three patients with chronic granulomatous disease. Heparin-stimulated NBT reduction may prove useful as a simple screening procedure for chronic granulomatous disease.
