Abstract
Paul S. Hsieh1, Louis A. Gilula1, James Fletcher2 A our institution, we perform a large number (over 200 per year) of fiuoroscopically guided musculoskeletal procedures on floating radiography tables. These procedures include arthrograms and tenograms of the extremities. Floating tables are also used for angiographic and interventional procedures performed throughout the body. During these procedures. we often obtain several digital spot films, so that digital subtraction images may be obtained later if necessary. To ensure that the subtraction images are of good quality, it is important to keep the anatomic site of interest immobile throughout the procedure. In the past. we used cloth, nylon, or paper tape for this purpose. wrapping strips of tape around the extremity (both proximal and distal to the injection sites) and securing the tape to the undersurface of the fluoroscopy table. However, some patients complained about irritation from the adhesive tape. One patient in 1994 had a sensitivity reaction to the tape, developing erythema and swelling in the area of the tape. For this reason, we constructed a comfortable, easy-to-use system of restraints and attached it to our fluoroscopy table.
