Abstract

A simple equation for the calculation of the velocity constant for combination of enzyme and substrate is k 1 = 1 (e − p max )t 1 2 off . It has been applied to peroxidase, and the values of k 1 are found to be in agreement with those determined directly by the rapid flow method. The equation has also been applied in a preliminary fashion to the reaction of cytochrome a 3 and oxygen and, although a complete theoretical verification is not available, the results are in fairly good agreement with the rapid flow values.
