Abstract

The meaning of the term 'knowledge compilation' is examined. Knowledge compilation at two levels is described. The first is the knowledge level, in the sense described by A. Newell (1982). The second is the symbolic level, where 'symbolic' encompasses anything that can be implemented on a digital computer. >
