Abstract

The study, by electron microscopy, of colony development in streptomycetes, is a laborious and time-consuming process which requires the use of large ultrathin sections that are usually difficult to obtain. In this work we have examined the colony growth in Streptomyces by means of semi-fine sections under the light microscope. The results obtained indicate that this simple and rapid method is useful for the study and characterization of both wild-type and ‘bald’ colonies in Streptomyces.
