Abstract

A method to estimate clear air atmospheric refractivity profile in the stable marine atmospheric boundary layer is presented. The method is based upon the extended similarity theory for the stably stratified atmospheric boundary layer and determines the refractivity profile from measuring atmospheric pressure, air temperatures, air humidity and wind speed at a single height within the marine atmospheric surface layer, and sea surface temperature. The proposed method is simple to determine electromagnetic propagation effects for radar, communication over sea.
