Abstract

A method is presented for orientating single crystals of any structure directly on a time-of-flight neutron spectrometer. In this method white radiation is used as in the Laue diffraction technique. While neutron Laue diffraction patterns are difficult to obtain, the information necessary for orientating the crystal can be obtained from the spectra of transmitted neutrons. The transmission patterns are easily measured by using an additional detector. The results of orientating a zinc single crystal are presented as an experimental test.
