Abstract
X-ray texture goniometry is widely used to determine preferred orientations in rocks. The main difficulty is to correct the observed intensities for some physical effects (particularly X-ray absorption, volume variation of the irradiated specimen, and defocusing) which depend on the inclination α of the sample slab with respect to the plane of the incident and diffracted beams. The method presented in this paper makes it possible to determine, experimentally, a general correction factor ρ(α) for the measured intensities. A ρ(α) curve, is obtained by comparing the intensities of one pole measured in two differently oriented slabs. The general correction factor ρ(α) has been determined for labradorite in a calc-alkaline basalt and for the quartz in a mylonitized granodiorite.
