Abstract

An octanuclear tin (IV) complex [( n-C 4H 9) 4N] 4 [Sn 8(μ 4-O) 2(μ 2-OH) 2S 12Cl 6] 1 was synthesized simply by the reaction of Na 2S·7H 2O and SnCl 4·5H 2O in DMF. The yield is high and this may provide a new strategy for the preparation of other octanuclear tin (IV) oxosulfide cluster. When 1 was heated under hydrothermal conditions, a decanuclear cluster [( n-C 4H 9) 4N] 4 [Sn 10(μ 4-O) 4(μ 3-S) 4(μ 2-S) 12Cl 4]·(4,4 ′-bipy) 2 may be obtained. The two clusters were all characterized by X-ray structure analysis.
