Abstract

The erythrocyte null point K + concentration at which the electrochemical potential gradient is equal to zero was determined from the influence of valinomycin on hypotonic haemolysis. For this concentration, the membrane permeabilization to potassium ions causes no change in erythrocyte volume. The experimental results show good agreement with the theoretical calculations.
