Abstract

A simple, fast, accurate and reliable modification of the Schütze-Unterzaucher oxygen determination method is described. Interfering products from the pyrolysis of sulfur and halogen containing compounds are eliminated with a liquid oxygen trap. The carbon monoxide is oxidized with anhydroiodic acid. The products formed in this reaction are absorbed in a CH-type absorption tube and weighed. Experiments with another very fast and efficient method, in which the pyrolysis is carried out in vacuum, are reported.
