Abstract

A simple factorization-based observability analysis and meter placement method is presented in this paper. Measurement Jacobian matrix is extended to include non-existing branch flow measurements so that observable islands are identified simultaneously when extra candidate measurements are placed to make the network observable if initially the system is unobservable. The method is described in detail along with numerical examples, which illustrates its effectiveness.
