Abstract

The method of bunch rotation will be used for the 1-GeV Compressor/Stretcher Ring of the JHP (Japanese Hadron Project) in order to compress a long proton bunch of 200 ns up to a few tens of nanoseconds. In the present work, analytical formulas are presented for estimating the bunch rotation under a longitudinal space charge effect. To obtain the formulas, a simple model in which the space charge force is assumed to be linear is used. An elementary derivation of the envelope equation including a self-force is given. Using the equation, the formulas are obtained, and numerical examples are presented. >
