Abstract

A simple error control strategy using MATLAB BVP solvers (ECS-BVPs) is developed for solving the Yb3+-doped fiber lasers model with boundary conditions. We simultaneously compare and discuss in detail the characteristics of the MATLAB BVP solvers bvp4c/bvp5c/bvp6c (BVPs) and ECS-BVPs for the numerical analysis of the high power Yb3+-doped fiber laser. The simulation results demonstrate that the simple error control strategy can deftly adjust the initial estimate of forward signal power by a given random function. Compared with number sequence transition method based on MATLAB BVP solvers bvp6c (NSTM-bvp6c), the accuracy and reliability of ECS-BVPs are verified. The simulation results demonstrate that the ECS-BVPs can provide an easily comprehensible and rapid method for calculating the threshold pump power and minimum fiber length in Yb3+-doped fiber lasers.
