Abstract

Considered has been the phenomenon of hydraulic jump formed as a result of circular jet impingement on the horizontal surface. The horizontal spreading of liquid is induced mainly by action of inertia forces. In the case of supercritical conditions of film flow the phenomenon of hydraulic jump may appear. Postulated model includes in the analysis dissipation effects present in the flow which lead to formation of the hydraulic jump. The model is derived from the analysis of Bernoulli equation. Some preliminary analysis on the formation of the type I and type II hydraulic jump, i.e., featuring formation of one or two eddies, has also been given. Presented model was compared with available database of experimental results. Satisfactory consistency has been achieved.
