Abstract

A high directional beam antenna for Wireless Interoperability Microwave Access (WiMAX) is proposed. The presented antenna consists of a single circular radiator inserted with a narrow slot and covered by a full ground plane at the back of the structure has been excited by a 50Ω coaxial probe feed. This antenna has successfully achieved a high directional gain of 6.7 dBi and a peak side-lobe level of -17.6 dB. Moreover, the proposed antenna is compact with a dimension of 50 mm by 50 mm on Taconic substrate. The patch antenna performed under tolerable S11 of -10dB for frequencies operating of 2.36 GHz to 2.39 GHz. Both simulation and measurement results exhibit that this antenna is sufficiently reliable for IEEE 802.16d and IEEE 802.16e.
