Abstract

Based on more than 100 experimental results a simple approach for calculating the failure bending moment of a straight pipe is given. Similar to limit load theory a constant stress distribution is assumed over the cross section, whereas stress intensity is expressed by a function of pipe geometry and work-hardening capability of the material.
