Abstract

A simple and rapid method for quantitative determination of protein in urine is described. The principle of the method is the “Protein error of indicators”. The sensitivity is very high and includes the “Heller negative” urines. The method is useful in routine practice with a capacity of more than 100 samples/h using semiautomatic equipment. The specificity of the method is examined and factors are given for different types of proteins. Albumin (bovine) is recommended as standard substance. The normal range (0.95-range) of the method is 0.016–0.212 g/1. It is recommended to use quantitative methods for determination of protein in urine in suspicious cases and fix empirical limits for excretion of protein as a diagnostic criterium (g/24 h).
