Abstract

The paper presents the p-version of the so-called hybrid- Trefftz (HT) finite element model and shows its excellent suitability for adaptive solutions. The HT model uses assumed displacement fields, chosen so as to satisfy a priori the governing differential equations of the problem, and enforces the interelement continuity and the boundary conditions. Optional classes of functions are available for various singularities and stress concentrations and make unnecessary troublesome local refinement of FE meshes. A simple local a posteriori error estimator is provided for controling the predicted stresses. The new approach may be implemented in existing FE codes. The high practical efficiency is demonstrated on analysis of an involved plate bending problem.
