Abstract
Editors and translators have not been able to agree on the sense of the word ὠλένηι in Euripides, Iphigeneia Taurica, line 965. Athena, judging at the κρίσις ὅπλων in some red-figured vase-paintings, makes a gesture that can help to explain what Euripides' audience understood by the word.
