Abstract

1588 Background: DietCompLyf, a prospective United Kingdom study, is investigating the effects of phytoestrogens and other lifestyle factors on survival in patients with invasive breast cancer. We present here a comparison of pre- and post-diagnostic dietary intake and supplement use reported by 1760 participants. Methods: Twosemi-quantitative food frequency questionnaires were administered to participants at study entry (approximately one year after diagnosis) one representing usual diet before diagnosis and the other, after diagnosis until study recruitment. Consumption of food groups and daily intake of macro- and micro-nutrients derived by nutritional software program analysis was evaluated. Supplement use was also examined. Results: Consumption of fruit and vegetables, lean protein sources, tea, wholegrain foods and nuts was significantly increased post-diagnosis (p < 0.05).
