Abstract

An increase in the incidence of hospital wide Central line Associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSIs) rate was identified in 2011. Consequently, a Task Force was created in early 2012 to review Central Line (CL) insertion and maintenance practices and identify potential opportunities for improvement for CLABSI reduction. Various evidence-based strategies were trialed and implemented by the task force at different intervals. However, a significant reduction was achieved after the implementation of alcohol-impregnated port protectors (AIPPs).
