Abstract

This paper proposes a method for fault diagnosis of high-resistance connection (HRC) in vector-controlled permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) drive system, which is based on a signal injection strategy applied to the PMSM control system during its normal operation. Two kinds of the signal injection methods are proposed to diagnose the HRC. In the proposed method, not only HRC fault can be detected, but also fault severity can be estimated and faulty phases can be identified. The simulation is carried out to verify the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method has high sensitivity to the HRC fault, high accuracy estimation of fault severity and good ability to identify the faulty phases. In addition, the proposed method is immunity to symmetrical stator resistance variations and inter-turn fault.
