Abstract

Gadre and Rattihalli (2004) have introduced a ‘Group Runs’ (GR) control chart for detecting shifts in the process mean, which is an improvement on the synthetic control chart proposed by Wu and Spedding (2000). In this article, we develop the ‘Side Sensitive Group Runs’ (SSGR) chart to detect shifts in the process mean. The SSGR chart performs better than the Shewhart’s \(\overline{X} \) chart, the synthetic chart and the GR chart. In steady state also, its performance is better than the remaining three charts.
