Abstract
A SiC-aluminum composite was fabricated by infiltrating Al-Si alloy pressurelessly into a carbon-containing SiC preform in a normal air environment. The infiltration is rapid, less than 10 min for a 10 mm thick section, and the obtained composite was near-net-shape. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the composite are reported.
