Abstract

The DC power flow control device can improve the control degree of freedom to direct the power flows in meshed DC grids, which contributes to solving the problem of uncontrollable power flow in some DC lines. The operating principle and operating characteristics of the shunt type power flow controller (SPFC) are analyzed, and it is indicated that the SPFC has nine operating states. Then, the general branch current calculation method suitable for meshed DC grids including SPFC is derived by formula derivation, which can provide logicality for the control strategy. Finally, the SPFC is applied in a meshed five-terminal DC grid. Through the simulation study, the feasibility of the power flow regulation capability of SPFC is verified. What's more, it is indicated further that compared with the existing power flow control devices, the cost of SPFC is less and its operation loss is smaller.
