Abstract
AbstractBased on Smoker (1938) analytical solution for binary distillation with constant relative volatility, Jafarey et al. (1979) derived a simple approximate design equation for the number of theoretical stages. This equation is modified to improve its predictions. This modified equation is particularly useful in computer process control applications because it gives an expression for the separation factor which is independent of the output parameters.
