Abstract

Abstract This year, 1967, commemorates 100 years of trigonometrical survey on a statewide basis. For nearly a century, efforts had been made to extend a trigonometrical survey of New South Wales. In April, 1855, the Governor, Sir William Denison, stated that he was desirous of establishing an Observatory for the purpose ot connecting it with the Trigonometrical Survey of the country. A few years later the Sydney Observatory was established at the site of Fort Phillip, or what was then known as Windmill Hill.
