Abstract

Rationale: Lutein + zeaxanthin (L+Z) are carotenoids that are highly prevalent in the eye macula, brain tissue, and human milk, but body levels can only be increased through dietary intake. As L+Z may be vital during the perinatal period, the purpose of this study is to assess if a short-form dietary questionnaire (SFDQ) correlates with estimated L+Z intake from a validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and subsequent serum levels in pregnant women.
